Porsche Cayenne – A New Generation of Powerful SUVs

Although the Porsche Cayenne initially raised people’s eyebrows as it entered the SUV business in 2003, it eventually proved itself worthy of the much-coveted Porsche name. With powerful engines that usually range from 500-horsepower twin-turbo V8 to the typical V6, this model is more than just your typical SUV. It’s lack of third row seats as well as its smaller cargo area may seem to limit its functionality but it actually gives it a sophisticated and classy appeal. It also comes with a stellar dual-range system, superb brakes, and razor-sharp steering capacities that have made it demonstrate superb dexterity on and off the road.

Old Porsche Cayenne models

Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne S were the first Porsche SUVs that were introduced in the market. The former comes with a V8 model that can pump out 450 hp, while the latter sports the same engine but can only produce 340 hp. These models were also subjected to a few minor changes during 2008 while newer models started to make their debut a few months later. In 2004, the 3.2-liter V6 model was released and its standard transmission turned into a six-speed manual by the year 2005. Turbo Power Kits and panoramic sunroofs were also added to improve the old Cayenne models.

By 2003, eager spectators also noticed major changes to the new line of Porsche Cayenne SUVs. Their engines gained more power and they were given a facelift to improve their overall styling. During the last few months of the year 2008, the new GTS model also arrived. A year after, Cayenne Turbo S immediately made a huge comeback.

The all new Porsche Cayenne

All Cayenne models usually came with only two rows of spacious seats that can accommodate as much as five passengers. It is now available in four different styles with various engines. Base Cayenne models are the most practical options but they are also the weakest because they have a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can only produce 290 hp. Other styles feature six-speed automatic settings with Tiptronic mounted controls for manual shift.

New Cayenne S models also provide brisker acceleration with their standard features and 385-hp V8 engine. On the other hand, the sport-tuned GTS features a 405-hp V8 engine, 21-inch wheels, six-speed settings for manual transmission, and a lower ride. The lavishly designed and quick Cayenne Turbo S can produce 550hp from it’s V8 engine, a powerful range that is far greater than other Porsche Cayenne models could offer.

Overall, the driving characteristics and sophisticated designs of all and new Cayenne models have continued to capture the hearts of those who love driving bigger cars. Despite its shortcomings, it still managed to dominate the market because of its powerful engine and impressive off-road hardware. Indeed, the Porsche Cayenne paved the way towards the new generation of revolutionary SUVs that can handle the trickiest terrain and toughest roads.
