BMW – All Car History Volume 16


BMW is one of the world’s leading manufacturer of high quality cars and motorcycles and is the parent company of the MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands. The acronym BMW stands for “Bayerische Motoren Werke” – or “Bavarian Motor Works” in English.

BMW models will be classified according to the “series”, the car model, for example, the 3 Series. BMW has a long history in motorsport, having participated in motorsports since the founding of the first BMW motorcycle.

BMW History

BMW was founded in 1913 to make aircraft engines to focus production in 1923, motorcycle and car in 1929. His works were damaged during the Second World War, and machine tools were confiscated by the Allies. BMW recover gradually, and bought in 1967, Hans Glas GmbH Company, whose plant was the largest BMW factory.

BMW bought the Rover Group in 1994, for sale, MG, Rover and Land Rover in 2000 but retaining the rights to build the new MINI in 2001 set up.
