German sports car maker, Porsche, may soon do the unthinkable: at least a four-cylinder-powered model in their product mix.

Porsche, along with most other auto makers, has suffered greatly this year, sales fell by more than 17% by August 2008 have. In August, sales of Porsche has a whopping 45%, both figures are for the U.S. market only.

A four-cylinder engine for Porsche?

The decision to build a car with a four-cylinder engine, was not completed, but it is something that Porsche believes that they need to take account of higher sales Garner. Several years ago, Porsche extended its product line by boldly adding an SUV, the line Porsche Cayenne, a vehicle that stoke the disturbed purists but helped the company’s bottom.

The introduction says the Cayenne, Porsche, that they lost sales to BMW and Mercedes, as forced families were needed more space, two-seater Porsche looking product offers. With the expanding SUV market by this type of vehicle was found to be critical to help, Porsche.

Cayenne Sales Are Up For The Year

Apparently it’s good with the Porsche Cayenne when his truck sales so far this year by nearly 4% for the years to Autodata Corp. obtained the information titles. Cayenne is the only vehicle to be sold by the Porsche of the car.

When Porsche decided to add a four-cylinder engine in product mix, it would not be a strange engine for Porsche. Only available in the 1980s, both the Porsche 924 and 944 models of four-cylinder engines, a technology that Porsche traces all the way back to 1930 years.

Guidance Boxster

The most likely recipients for a four-cylinder engine is the Porsche Boxster, the smallest and lightest of all Porsche models. Some analysts believe that Porsche could easily make the transition to a four-cylinder engine by two cylinders from a current six-cylinder engine and comes with a 2nd 4L flathead four cylinder.

Another possibility would be for Porsche to an existing four-cylinder engine from Volkswagen partners harvest and amending it to suit their needs. The two automakers have a long history of cooperation and sharing of technology development of cars with the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, underpinned by the same truck platform.

Finally, Porsche could also consider a completely new model, maybe four passenger sport sedan move to expand its product range and provide an efficient model fuel. This movement would be further enraged Porsche loyalists, but given the current economic climate and concerns about global energy, a compact sedan hotrod could go the direction of Porsche.
